RuneScape Practical Powerleveling Guide: Part 2

Edit This Entry

NamePractical Powerleveling Guide: Part 2
CategoryGeneral
Levels 40-60

Now you should be at low to mid-level prayer. The best monster to kill here would be either to stick with hill giants or move on to bigger XP; again, this is hard to do in non-members because you don’t have many options.

What to bring – bring the best armor possible; I would say rune armor would be the best. The going rate is at 170k-200k and it is worth it since it is the best non-member armor. Also, get yourself a rune scimitar; these go for 25k-30k.

If you stick with hill giants then just own like you always have. By level 50 of each style, you won’t anymore need food. For this time of training you will need to set recovery questions. This is very easy to do, just go to RuneScape’s home page and scroll down to account management and click on “Set new recovery questions.”

After setting your recovery question, you must get to the Barbarian Village. If you know were it is already, get there, and if you don’t, just follow the way to getting to the monks but stay at the village.

After you get there, go to the center of the village and you will see a dungeon.

Go inside you will be in a room and a little south of you there is a skeleton. Search it and you will find a book. Just drop it and then you will see a door a little southwest of the skeleton. Go through it and it will say some stuff now. After you go through the first door there will be another right in front of you; click on it and it will ask a random question. Answer it right to get past it. If it does not, don’t worry about it and just go to the door east of that.

Some doors will ask stuff, some won’t; the questions are easy and are about common knowledge of RuneScape. After you get past the east door, there are two more of them. Go past them and go past the two north doors.

You will then see a chain; don’t climb it or you will be taken out of the dungeon. There will be doors to the east; go past those and head northeast and go through those doors. Follow the path and you will come to some more doors. Get past those and you will come to the center; you will see a chest or “gift of peace”. Open it and you get an emote.

Afterwards go to the ladder west of there and you will go to the second level. Go to the west and open the two doors, then go to the doors to the west and you will come to a place with flesh crawlers (level 28) and zombies. I suggest you camp out right here for a long time getting your levels up – this is a great spot to train in, especially if you have good armor; you don’t really need much food here.

For members

If you are a member you should really try to do the “Horrors from the Deep” quest; it’s a little tough but way worth it for power training. Here’s a link to the guide:

http://www.runehq.com/RHQQuestsView.php?id=00432

I really suggest to stop training your combat and instead go get the requirements for this quest because it will make your life a lot easier…

If you don’t do the quests then just follow the non-members guide; if you do, then follow my guide for this.

After doing the quest get a hold of about 500 lobsters. Yes, 500! Either fish them or buy them, then get yourself a good set of armor (like rune) and the best weapon you can wield. Note all the lobsters you have at Camelot bank and go to the light house where you fought the dagganoths in the quest. Fight them and pick up their drops, as you will need them to stay here long. Kill as many as you can when you need food, then go up the ladder again and once more the guy in the second floor will buy all the drops you get from fighting. Sell them to him unless they are really good drops (like ranarr seeds which sell for 25k+ to players). Get enough money here and sell him about 15 lobsters; they will become unnoted. Then, buy them back. Keep doing this for a long time as this is the best way to get your levels up for members, in my opinion.

Levels 60-99

For Non-Members

Here is where things get really hard, because in non-members there isn’t really any spot to get high levels…but well, there are always the lesser demons in Karamja. To get there you need 30gp, and I suggest getting your fishing to 40 and your cooking to 40. Also bring a tinder box, a lobster cage, and a bronze axe, so if you are low on food you don’t have to walk all the way to the bank but just fish lobsters on the island. Here’s how it is set up.

So, you arrive and you have food. Great! Go straight in the dungeon; if not, go fish lobsters, and after you get an inventory full go chop a tree (can’t chop banana trees) and light a fire and cook the lobsters. I suggest doing this a lot because you will burn some lobsters at low cooking levels.

When you are ready to fight, go into the dungeon. Fight here until the desired level; it’s going to take long but it’s the best way for non-members.

Now for members, it’s all different as you have a lot of places to train. After 40 combat you can get into Pest Control – this is a great mini game for XP and I suggest you camp out here for a very long time. Here is a mini guide for members…

For Members

You guys get dragon weapons, but for this, you must first do “Lost City”. It is an easy quest in my opinion, as I did it at about 40-50 combat and I’ve seen level 30s do it. Here’s a guide to the quest:

http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2quest_id=59

After doing the quest I suggest getting a dragon long sword and a dragon dagger. Better if it’s poisoned.

You will need 60 attack to wield these weapons, and trust me, it is so worth the training as they both have special attacks.

Long sword – the sword hits harder for 1 hit
Dragon dagger – has a 2 hit combo and the special can be used 4 times per bar

The dragon dagger is very efficient and is kind of cheap, only costing about 50k if it is super poisoned (which will hit 6 damage every now and then on your opponent). I recommend looking for a lot of quests that give XP to combat skills because this will save you a bunch of training time.

Now the mini-game Pest Control is very helpful and it can earn you a little bit of money along the way. Here’s a small guide on it:

Arrive at the Pest Control island by going to Port Sarim and talking to the Void Knight. He will take you to their outpost where you will get started. This mini game is based on teams, so the first thing you need is a good world. I suggest World 140 which is the official Pest Control world. Go to the first boat you see and enter it. Wait a little bit and the game will start.

You will be taken to an island. The best thing for you to do is attack everything you see; you must get at least 50 hits in order to get tickets, so that’s your first priority. After the 50 hits you can either get more to help with your XP or just chill and wait. After each game you will get 2-4 tickets depending what boat you are on.

Levels 40-69 – novice boat – 2 tickets per win
Levels 70-99 – intermediate boat – 3 tickets per win
Levels 100-126 – experience boat – 4 tickets per win

After gathering many tickets as you can, trade them in for XP. I suggest you gather 100 tickets before trading them in because you get 10% extra XP, so just play until you get 100 or 200 and turn them in 100 at a time. To turn them in go to the Void Knights and trade them the points. Well, there it is – the guide to the Pest Control mini game.

Now I know this mini-game gets very boring after a while, and I don’t suggest you do this until level 99 of each skill because it would take forever. Just remember that it will take a long time no matter what, so I suggest having some fun while training, like killing the Kalphite Queen (but don’t even dream of doing this until you reach around 90+ combat!). She is a mean bug and could kill you in just 2 or 3 hits. Still, I will tell you the best way to defeat her.

Items needed – full veracs (costs about 3.6m), a lot of sharks, a lot of strength potions and may-b attack potions, ropes, and shanty passes.

Skills needed – 60+ prayer would be great, 90+ combat, and a partner

First off, it is very hard to kill her if you don’t have full veracs and I will explain why.

Veracs is an armor that can hit through any prayer and because the queen prays you will need to hit through it. Find yourself a partner that is level 100+ and try your best. I will not post a full guide on her because there are a lot of places to find the best guides.

You should not think that because she is high level you will get 99 on any combat skill fast. I just posted this because I know training non-stop will make you want to rip your hair off, so don’t.

Slayer – Slayer is a very useful skill and it’s awesome because it helps you train 3 skills at a time. Yes, 3 skills…I mean slayer, hit points, and what ever fighting style you are training.

To start slayer you must speak to Vannaka; he is located in the Edgeville dungeon.

Talk to him and he will explain some things and give you a task along with an enchanted gem. This will be the way to communicate for most people. The first task is hill giants (about 100+), so go to the dungeon next to Varrock and start slaying away. After you are done with the task, you can head back to Vannaka and get a new task. If you think the tasks are to hard, go to Turael; he is located in a small house south of Burthorpe. He gives really easy tasks and is the only one that can change your tasks.

*Note* you don’t get slayer XP from each task but by the monster you kill.

Magic!

This is the magic mini guide. I will go into some details on magic but not all the way.

First off, magic is a very useful skill; as you advance, you always have something new to do.

Starting out:

Magic is very easy to do; just buy like 1k mind runes behind Varrock east bank. Wield an air staff and stand at the mining pit at Alkharaid where the scorpions are, and stand outside of the mine and just attack them. This will get you good magic and hopefully enable you to each 17-20 magic. This way, you can do air bolts; these are better to rain with but more expensive.

If you have enough money, go buy about 1500 chaos runes at the same place you bought the minds runes, and go stand at the lesser demons at Karamja (read the guide for getting there). There are about 3 spots where you can stand and not get attacked. They are easy to find, just look at people using them and kill them. Use up the chaos runes and you will have about 30 something magic. From here, you can just keep doing this with higher level attacks. If you are a non-member this is the best thing to do…

If you have enough time but not enough money, the best thing is to get your level to 19 by using the mind runes technique and buying a bunch of body runes, a bunch of waters and a bunch of earths. This is what you should get:

10k – bodys
Wield earth staff
20k – water

Or you can make it smaller number, it’s up to you. Go to the Wizard’s Tower, and on the third floor there is a lesser demon on a cage. Now the best thing to do is get a full set of rune armor, put on some leather vambraces (green works better but you need 40 range), and an iron kite shield, then head to the tower. The point of this is so you don’t have to wait 30 seconds before having to cast the spell again. This is a time-consuming process because you have to click over and over again but it works good and it’s better than having to make a lot of money for runes.

If you are a member, the best way is to work your way to 45 magic, then either run law runes or buy them. You will need about 1.8k law runes to get to 55 magic, and from there on you will make it all back so find a way to get 1.8k law runes. Wield an air staff and just teleport to Camelot a lot of times. When you get level 55 magic, you will have one of the best spells, that is, high alchemy. This spell turns items into gold, but the runes needed are expensive so don’t go around using it on anything you see. Here’s the best way:

Get level 70 fletching by cutting willow logs into long bows. Buy the logs at around 20gp each then sell the long bows (u) to the general stores for 16gp each. I know you lose some money, but oh well, you will make it back fast. After getting 70 fletching, buy yew logs at around 340gp each (no more than 350gp each). Also, buy flax at 100gp each (you will need level 10 crafting to make bowstrings) and buy nature runes at about 280gp each (no more than 300gp each).

Cut the logs into long bows (u) and spin the flax into bow strings, then string the long bows (u) into yew longbows, then put on a fire staff and high alchemy the bows. Here’s a mathematical breakdown of it all:

1k yew logs – around 345k
1k flax – 100k
1k nature runes – about 290k

That’s 735k in total

Each yew long bow alchs for 768gp.

You end up with 768k which means you made 33k profit, plus a good amount of magic XP. After a while of doing this and getting 85 fletching, you will be able to move on to magic long bows. Do the same; only difference is that these alch for 1536gp. Bad thing about it is that the logs are harder to find and cost about 1.1k each. You might want to stick to yews if you are just looking for magic XP. I suggest doing this all the way to 99 magic as the profit is the best and the XP is super fast. It does get boring, so I suggest going farming while alching.

Mini-Games

Magic has a very good mini/training game, and also a range guild to buy mystic armor and runes. The mystic armor is good for using while in combat, and there are more varieties of runes at the guild shop. The guild is located in Yanille and you will need 66 magic to get in, but you can also have level 63 and drink a wizard mind bomb which raises your magic level by 3 for a period of time, and you can get in this way.

Another great mini game to do with magic is my favorite Barrows. This mini-game is really great to make money and have fun while doing it. I suggest getting 55 slayer and 50 magic because then you can use slayer dart; this is the best way to beat Barrows. Also, I suggest getting about 65 prayer; this way you won’t waste too much money on prayer potions (you must pray if you want to survive). I am not going to get detailed into this mini game because there are some great guides out there and it is a lot easer to understand them.

The mage training arena is another good mini-game but takes up a lot of time and runes. However, most of the time you make back any money you lose by selling the armor you get from the mini-game. The arena is located behind the dueling arena in Alkharaid; read a good guide in runehq.com to get the best results.

The mage arena is a great mini-sub quest that is held deep in the wilderness. This is the quest that gets you the god spells like Saradomin Strike, Flames of Zammorak, and Claws of Guthix. These spells hit very high by themselves but even higher when you charge them up; the bad thing is you need blood runes to be able cast them, and as we know blood runes are not cheap. But this is a very good way to go player killing.

Breakdown of magic – good skill to go player killing, has best money making ways in game, and it’s very fun.

Range

Oh yes range…what can I say about this combat skill…it’s hard to train but very well worth the time. Here’s a little to know about range..

Range is a great skill to have a high level on. It attacks fast, it’s cheap, and it hits from far away. With range, you might be fighting something and it can’t hit you back, just like a mage, only it is cheaper and it does not take too much to get the levels you want. I might not be the highest player out there but I know a thing or two about range.

First of all, range is pretty much the same for every level. Just start out with some bronze arrows and a bow, and just range things from behind an obstruction. Best place to do this would be at Edgeville, right before you enter the wilderness. Just before you jump over the ditch, you should see some skeletons walking around on the other side. Just range them and jump over the ditch to get your arrows.

If you are a member, I suggest you do Hero’s Quest and just stay in the bottom of the guild and kill blue dragons over and over. This will be good XP and a lot of money! Keep all the dragon bones and hides; if you get a clue, do it right away as the bank is just to the north of the Hero’s Guild. In the building with a beer on it (a bar) behind the counter, you will see a dungeon door. Enter it; down here is the rogues’ den, and there is a guy walking around that has a “bank” option. Just bank all the hides and bones here and head back to the guild.

In most worlds, someone will be in there so bring about 1k mind runes and an air staff. After each kill pop on the staff and click on your mage book and use the air strike as soon as the dragon pops up. Attack him as fast as you can because if not you will have to right-click the dragon and go down to “attack”. By this time, other people would have taken it, so as soon as you attack it pop on your bow and that’s it, just range him until death.

Range does not have a lot of extra features but it does have a guild that you need 40 range to get in. Nothing too special in here; I suggest reading up any metal dragon guides because these dragons are worth it. For this, you will need some money and good range, so remember to train, train, train.
